What is liposuction and what is a liposuction compression garment?

Liposuction is a medical procedure that uses suction to remove fat deposits from the body. The objective is to slim and contour targeted body areas.

A small tube is entered through tiny cuts in the skin. The surgeon, then moves the tubes about under the skin and suctions fat out of specific areas.

Common targeted areas that liposuction is used for are:

  • Thighs
  • Abdomen
  • Buttocks
  • Chest
  • Upper arms
  • Back
  • Calves
  • Chin and neck

Liposuction Compression Garments:

After a liposuction procedure, a compression garment will apply pressure or “compress,” the surgical area in place. This aids retraction for the contouring of the body area.

Most surgeons instruct patients to wear a compression garment customized for the particular surgical site for a specific time period in order to provide postoperative compression in a continuous manner. The compression garment can reduce swelling and bruising at the incision site which results in healing acceleration. Blood vessels and capillary fluid can leak into the tissues, which can, in turn, negatively affect healing, sometimes even causing the accumulation of fluids.

This can result in inflammation, infection or even separation of the wound. The compression garment prevents the leakage and fluid accumulation known as a seroma. The compression garment assists the patient’s newly shaped body to heal in a uniform manner, avoiding lumps or bumps.

Many compression garments support body posture and provide the patient with a sense of security. The patients who has chosen to undergo liposuction has made a decision to make a physical change, but the procedure can benefit mental health as well. The compression garment continues postoperative benefits such as offering proper compression for the various stages of recovery, in a comfortable manner and these postoperative garments are no longer unattractive, because, now, companies such as ContourMD, make it their obligation to address the physical and mental health of the liposuction patient by providing a garment that delivers compression comfortably, and in style!
