Breast Augmentation Procedures
Info about the various options available
Breast augmentation procedures can be anything from a breast reconstruction after treatment for canter to breast implants or a breast lift. All of these procedures change the way the breasts look and therefore they’re called breast augmentation procedures. Here’s a bit of basic info about the most common types.
A breast reduction is a breast augmentation procedure that reduces the size of the breasts. These are common among women who have back pain due to abnormally large breasts that do not shrink with weight loss. Men also have breast reductions when their chest is not a shape they like.
An implant is inserted into or under the breast in order to make them bigger. Implants are often made of silicon or water and can last for many years.
When breasts become saggy or limp over time, due to aging, child rearing, and gravity, the lower skin can be removed and the breasts lifted and made firm and perky again.
This is usually a breast augmentation procedure for women who have had part of or a whole breast removed during cancer treatment.
In some cases, liposuction can be part of a breast reduction procedure.
Other Breast Augmentation Procedures
There are a wide variety of breast augmentation procedures with various technical names which a doctor may use. Sometimes a breast lift is also called a mastopexy, for example. Depending on your unique body and your wishes for a change to the size or shape of your breasts, the procedure may be simple or it could be complex and involve more than one type of breast augmentation procedure. Speak to a doctor about your options and what to expect. You’ll find that doctors are willing to go through your options so that you’re well informed about the decision.
