Second Stage Compression Garments are typically worn about two to three weeks after surgery (at your doctor’s instruction). A second stage garment provides lighter compression which is necessary after you have out grown the need for the surgical compression garment. These less bulky garments can easily be worn undetected underneath the patient's everyday clothing. The garments are also less restrictive which allows the patient to return to their active lifestyle as quickly as possible.
Typically you will begin to wear your garment less frequently as your healing progresses, however this should only occur upon your doctor’s advice. The second stage of recovery can last several weeks or several months depending on the patient’s ability to heal as well as the type of procedure. Due to the extended amount of time these garments are worn it is suggested that two garments be purchased.
