We’ve put together a few of the most commonly asked questions to help you find the best shapewear for your unique needs:

  • Do I need shapewear

  • How do I find the right size of shapewear?
  • How do I care for my new shapewear?
  • Why should you choose ContourMD shapewear?

Do You Need Shapewear?

Shapewear provides many benefits to many different groups of people, and, we’ve mentioned, the right piece of shapewear is out there for you.

We need to help narrow down what would be best for your specific goals and body type.

Many people don’t realize this, but shapewear isn’t just for “tummy tucks” or Brazilian butt lifts, although those are great reasons to pick some up.

Shapewear has varying levels of compression and also benefits people recovering from:

  • Cosmetic surgery
  • Weight loss surgery
  • new moms
  • men and women who have had breast surgery
  • pre or post-op gender confirmation surgery
  • and even people working from home and wanting to look nice on that zoom call!

And while we may be utterly loose on Zoom calls and virtual happy hours, the confident and controlled feeling you will enjoy from finding the right piece of shapewear will last longer than the year 2020 felt like. Shapewear for newbies is starting to feel better already, right??

What Does Shapewear Do For My Body?

We’ve’ mentioned that there are many different reasons a person will seek out and use shapewear.

From tummy control to a soothing compression after weight loss surgery, the uses for shapewear are vast.

Patients can use shapewear aesthetically to improve their shape and contour or even smooth underwear lines.

Patients can use it medically to help people recovering from various types of surgery. And while shapewear doesn’t have the same compression level as the medical-grade garments we also manufacture, it can be a long-term solution.

Patients who have received some cosmetic surgery look to maintain and emphasize their results long after the healing process is complete.

How Do I Find The Right Size Shapewear?

When buying shapewear products, you must know your measurements to ensure the correct size.

Typically your weight and height should be enough to find the right compression level, but we will also require measurements of your waist, thighs, hips, stomach, neck, bust, shoulders, and arms (depending on the garment you are considering).

Make sure these measurements are precise and DON’T size down for extra compression.

Buying shapewear garments that are too tight can cause the garments to roll down and become uncomfortable (or you may not even be able to get them on in the first place).

If you buy the wrong shapewear size, it’s easy to feel like shapewear is not suitable for you or is highly uncomfortable – though this may not be true.

Keep in mind that every brand is different, so if you used to have a shapewear piece from another brand, use our size chart and select the corresponding size even if it’s different from your other brand.

And remember, if you are unsure, having trouble with measurements, or feel you are between sizes, you can always chat, call, or email, and one of our expert staff will be pleased to assist you in finding the right size.

How Do I Care For My Shapewear

You invest in something, and you want it to last. Shapewear is no different. Don’t worry. Caring for shapewear is nothing like that. But there are some handy rules you can follow:

  • Always wash on the gentle cycle (with cold water).
  • Use a wash bag when you can.
  • Wash separately.
  • Hang to dry (really, NO dryer twist the garment, lay flat).
  • Use a delicate detergent.

It seems like many steps, but trust us; it’s worth it. We will admit that hand washing is ultimately the absolute best way to preserve the integrity of your garments, but this is the same for all your clothing.

If you choose to machine wash them gently, put your garments in a separate bag and avoid spinning them with bras or other things with hooks as they can get caught on the materials.

Luckily, you can hang your shapewear to dry (it doesn’t have to be flat) but seriously, don’t wring out the water; it will destroy its shape.

Use a light or delicate detergent. The last thing you want is your shapewear absorbing the odors used in cheap detergents and retaining an icky, sweaty smell.

There are detergents you can use to wash the inside of your washing machine if it seems to have an odor, too.
