Complete recovery from abdominoplasty can take from four to six weeks. Depending on the extent of the surgery, you may be hospitalized for two to three days. You will feel pain and may have a drain tube for a day or two. You will experience swelling and may not be able to stand straight for several weeks. For major surgery, you will feel tired for weeks and even months.

When at home, avoid climbing stairs for at least a week. You will need someone to assist you in getting dressed and bathing. You may return to work after two to four weeks.
