Liposuction Procedure
Liposuction is a type of cosmetic surgery in which a surgeon will remove fat typically from the patient's thighs, buttocks and abdomen. This is done by liquefying the fat before using a hollow needle to remove it from the body. Sometimes abdominoplasty is needed in more extreme cases. A marked improvement can be seen when liposuction before and after pictures are compared side by side.
When to Choose a Liposuction Procedure
Despite the amount of effort one puts into diet and exercise, there may still be fat deposits in the body that remain. It is in these types of cases that liposuction can be used. A great deal of effort goes into liposuction because this surgery can be expensive and painful, not to mention that there are certain health risks involved. Liposuction is not a weight loss method; it is considered body contouring. The amount of fat removed from your body will depend on your doctor, but the average amount removed during liposuction is ten pounds or less (5kg).
A liposuction patient will also experience blood loss during the procedure, and the blood loss limits the amount of fat your doctor can safely remove from your body. Together, the surgeon and the patient will decide how much fat should be removed. So don't believe anything you've heard about people who have have 50 pounds (25 kg) of fat removed! Since there is contouring involved in liposuction, it can often appear that the patient has lost more weight than the actual amount of fat the surgeon has removed.
Liposuction Plastic Surgery Choices
Most people come to a surgeon wanting to get rid of love handles. Liposuction for a man or woman can be done; talk to your doctor about what risks you face and what results you can achieve. Liposuction can be done on different parts of the body including the arms, breasts, inner thighs, legs, stomach and face. Facial and abdominal procedures are very common. Be sure to ask your doctor about the dangers of liposuction, the recovery period you will need to plan for, and the kind of swelling you can expect afterwards.
